About

The Hanna City Sportsman’s Club was founded in 1934 and incorporated April 9th, 1946 by Chester Dalton, Elmer Penn, William (Wink) Williams, Hank Workman, Tom Cook and George Doubet.  The club originated when these gentlemen, after seeing three men shoot over 40 rabbits and virtually everything that moved, met at an oil station in town in 1934. They went to Springfield to try and do something about it. After several trips, they formed the club. The Founders wanted to promote conservation and restoration of all forms of wildlife and natural resources. Trap shoots were held to raise money, and in 1946 the group purchased the current site of the clubhouse on the south end of town. A small one room structure was originally built on the land. A larger building was added in 1956. Then, in 1977, a 40 x 58 foot addition completed the current facility. Through the years, the Sportsman’s Club went through many changes but always stayed true to the objective and purpose set forth by the founding fathers.

Today, the Sportsman’s Club has two locations. The club house building is located at 103 S Main, in Hanna City. It includes a bar area and a hall area that is available to be rented by members and the general public. The bar area includes several TV’s and a private video poker gaming room. The general public is welcome to come in and enjoy the bar area when we are open. The lake property is located in rural Elmwood (1537 Elmwood TW, Elmwood, IL) and is only open to members. The lake property consists of 166 acres with a large 33 acre lake and two small lakes, one which is 5 acres and the other is 3 acres. The lakes are stocked with Large Mouth Bass, Kentucky Bass, Blue Gill, Red Ear Blue Gill, Crappie, Walleye and Channel Catfish.
